Dr. Md. Abdul Karim was the former principal Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh. Mr. Karim also served to the Government of Bangladesh in the Ministry of Commerce, Home Affairs, Fisheries and Livestock, Finance (Internal Resources Division) and Communications (Bridge Division) before his appointment as the Principal Secretary.
Mr. Karim obtained B. Sc. (Hons) and M. Sc. (First Class)in Chemistry from the University of Chittagong, Master of SocialScience (M.S.S) in Development Administration from the Universityof Birmingham, UK and Ph. D. from Bangladesh University ofProfessionals (BUP), Dhakafor his researches on Sustainable Poverty Reduction Model for Bangladesh. He has got 47 years of experience inCivil Service, Private service, Field Administration, Foreign Service, Corporate andDevelopment/NGO Sectors.
Beyond government service, Dr. Karim has made significant contributions to the corporate and development sectors. He has served as Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), Senior Adviser of BRAC, Chairman of Green Delta Insurance Company Ltd., Adviser of Banglalink,Chairman of IPDC Finance and Chairman of Eastern Refinery Limited. He is actively engaged in various social and educational initiatives. Dr. Md. Abdul Karim is the former President of Bangladesh Scouts, ChittagongUniversity Alumni Association and Bangladesh Chemical Society. He is now the Presidentof Bangladesh Scouts Foundation, Allama Rumi Society Bangladesh, Honorary Adviser ofCredit Development Forum (CDF), EC Member of Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF)and its Tripartite Coordination Committee (TCC) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment etc. He is the Secretary General of the South East Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation, Dhaka working for trade/investment promotion in 5 OIC member Countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Maldives). Dr. Karim is the Advisory Board Member of the Asian University for Women (AUW), Chattogram. He is an Independent Trustee of A.K. Khan Foundation. Dr. Karim pioneered the concept of Economic Zones, Public Private Partnership (PPP) guidelines for large Projects, Business Initiatives Leading Development (BUILD) of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce etc.
